The Mitchener Point Lighthouse was established in 1908 on a marsh south of the point on the west side of the Avon River near Hantsport. The original structure was a tapered square wood tower painted white with a wood lantern. It served as a navigational aid for vessels traveling the Avon River toward the Minas Basin.
Between 1966 and 1970, the original wooden tower was replaced by a fiberglass tower. The light was automated by 1993 and eventually decommissioned. The site is on private property with no public access, though views of the Avon River and the Minas Basin can be enjoyed from Lighthouse Road. The Mitchener Point area is known for its dramatic Bay of Fundy tides.
