About Nova Scotia Vacation

Helping travelers discover the real Nova Scotia — one lighthouse, beach, and lobster roll at a time.

Martinique Beach, Nova Scotia

Hi, I'm Jeremy 👋

Founder & Editor, Nova Scotia Vacation

Why I Started This Site

A few years ago, I planned my first trip to Nova Scotia and quickly discovered a problem: the information out there was scattered, outdated, or frustratingly vague. Official tourism sites gave glossy overviews. Travel forums had bits and pieces buried in threads from 2019. And most blog posts covered the same three places — Peggy's Cove, the Cabot Trail, Lunenburg — without going deeper.

I wanted to know: Which beach actually has warm water in August? What's open and what's permanently closed? Where do locals actually eat in Halifax? Which hiking trails are worth the drive?

So I built the resource I wished existed. Nova Scotia Vacation started as a personal trip-planning project and grew into a comprehensive guide covering 800+ pages — every region, 53 beaches, 187 lighthouses, 60 events, and 34 in-depth editorial guides. No filler, no copy-paste from Wikipedia. Every recommendation is researched, verified, and updated.

Why Trust This Site

I'm not a tourism board employee or a marketing agency. I'm a traveler and researcher who fell in love with Nova Scotia and became obsessed with getting the details right. Here's what that means in practice:

  • Every listing is verified. We check if restaurants are still open. We confirm event dates against official sources. We flag when a trail has been rerouted or a ferry schedule has changed.
  • We visit the places. Photos on this site are real — taken from official sources, our own visits, and verified contributors. No AI-generated stock imagery pretending to be a real beach.
  • We update constantly. Our automated systems scan for broken links, outdated pricing, and business closures every day. If a brewery shuts down, we catch it within hours, not months.
  • We're transparent about affiliate links. When we recommend a hotel or tour, we may earn a small commission if you book through our link — at no extra cost to you. This keeps the site running. We never recommend something we wouldn't book ourselves.

What Makes Us Different

Most travel sites are built for SEO and ad clicks. We're built for trip planning. That means:

🏖️

🗺️

Interactive Tools

Trip cost calculator, ferry & route planner, accommodation finder, and best-time-to-visit tool — all free, all built to help you actually plan.

🔍

Accuracy-First

Daily automated audits check for broken URLs, outdated info, and missing data. We catch errors before you do.

📍

All 8 Regions

Halifax, Cape Breton, South Shore, Annapolis Valley, Eastern Shore, Northumberland Shore, Bay of Fundy, and Lunenburg — covered in depth, not just the highlights.

When I'm Not Working On This Site

When I'm not researching Nova Scotia tourism data or building new trip-planning tools, I'm usually working on other web projects, exploring new places (Atlantic Canada has a way of pulling you back), and trying to find the perfect seafood chowder. I'm based in Canada and travel to Nova Scotia whenever I can.

Where We're Based

Based in Canada. The site is hosted on Cloudflare's global CDN for fast loading everywhere, with data sourced from Tourism Nova Scotia, Parks Canada, official business websites, and verified user contributions.
