Quick Facts
History & Description
The Sambro Harbour Lighthouse was built in 1899 to guide vessels into Sambro Harbour, a sheltered anchorage southwest of Halifax near the entrance to Halifax Harbour. It should not be confused with the nearby and far older Sambro Island Lighthouse (1758), the oldest operating lighthouse in North America.
The Sambro Harbour light was automated in 1961. Today it remains a familiar landmark along the rocky shoreline of the Sambro area, standing 32 feet tall and reachable via a short coastal hike.
