Pennant Harbour Lighthouse

The Pennant Harbour Lighthouse stands on the north side of Pennant Cove, about 30 kilometres south of Halifax along the Lighthouse Route. The present light is a round, white fibreglass tower without a lantern, replacing the original square wooden tower that first went into service in 1903. At roughly 30 feet above the water, it marks the entrance to Pennant Harbour for boats working the coves and islands of this stretch of the South Shore.

The original 1903 wooden tower served the harbour for most of the 20th century, appearing in records at about 33 feet with a fixed white catadioptric lens. In 1991 it was replaced by the current fibreglass structure, which is automated like every operating light in Nova Scotia. Reaching the site requires a short hike, and the surrounding shoreline of bare granite and spruce makes a rewarding stop for photographers travelling the Aspotogan Peninsula.
