About Halifax Seaport Cider and Beerfest

For three days each August, the Halifax Seaport transforms into Atlantic Canada's largest outdoor celebration of craft beer and cider. In its 18th year, the Halifax Seaport Cider and Beerfest brought together more than 400 beers, ciders, sodas, seltzers, and pre-mixed cocktails from over 100 producers across the region and well beyond. Set against the working wharves and harbour views of Marginal Road, the festival paired the buzz of a packed tasting hall with the salt air of one of the world's great natural harbours. For dedicated hopheads and curious newcomers alike, it stood as the marquee drinking event of the Nova Scotia summer.

The format was gloriously simple: one ticket, one souvenir festival mug, and every sample you care to pour. That all-inclusive setup let you bounce from a hazy Nova Scotia IPA to a seasonal blueberry ale, a crisp German pilsner, or a sharp imported sour without reaching for your wallet each time. The atmosphere landed somewhere between street party and tasting room β€” live music drifted across the waterfront, food vendors lined up to soak up the pours, and the brewers themselves were on hand to walk you through what was in your glass. As a 19-plus event, it kept the focus squarely on conversation, discovery, and responsible enjoyment.

Tucked inside the main event was FIZZFEST, a cider-focused festival-within-a-festival that gives pride of place to one of the fastest-growing corners of East Coast craft. FIZZFEST spotlighted apple and pear ciders, fruit-forward experiments, and traditional-method offerings from Nova Scotia orchards and producers across the country. It was a rare chance to see how far cider has evolved past the familiar pint glass β€” barrel-aged, hopped, and infused with everything from local berries to foraged botanicals. For visitors who swore they didn't like cider, a single session had a habit of changing minds.

The 2026 edition ran across four sessions over three days, from August 13 to 15, on Marginal Road in front of Garrison Brewing β€” a fitting anchor given the brewery's outsized role in Halifax's craft story. With more than 5,000 visitors streaming through over the weekend, sessions sold out quickly, so booking ahead through Showpass was essential. Plan a designated driver, a walk back into downtown, or a nearby stay to make the most of the evening. Pair the festival with a tour of the city's craft breweries and taprooms β€” Halifax's beer scene runs deep, and Ciderfest is the ideal launch point.
