About Walk Through Christmas Past: Illuminated Scenes of a 1940s Christmas

For two November evenings the 1940s village at Lake Charlotte turns into a walking snow globe. Walk Through Christmas Past, on November 21 and 22, 2026, sends visitors along the lit paths of Memory Lane Heritage Village to peer through the windows of its illuminated buildings, where scenes of a rural 1940s Christmas play out inside: children rehearsing the Christmas pageant in the schoolhouse, holiday baking underway in the Webber House, and the farm animals being put to bed in the barn.

Admission is by a suggested donation of $5 per person, cash only at the entrance, shared between the heritage village and the local food bank, with ticketed entrance times from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. each evening. There is a photo op with the vintage red truck, freshly back from collecting a cut Christmas tree, and the village asks that pets stay home. The walk is outdoors, so dress for an Eastern Shore evening in late November.

The walk pairs naturally with the Traditional 1940s Christmas Dinner the weekend before, and with the season's other heritage-village Christmas, Sherbrooke Village's Old-Fashioned Christmas from November 27 to 29. Both sit on the Eastern Shore within reach of Halifax; our Memory Lane Heritage Village guide covers the village itself, and the Nova Scotia in December guide has the full holiday calendar.

Make the most of your time in Eastern Shore - pair Walk Through Christmas Past: Illuminated Scenes of a 1940s Christmas with our 100 Wild Islands guide, Family Travel Guide, and surfing guide. They're each packed with itinerary ideas, local tips, and everything you need to extend your stay.
