About Windsor Christmas Market & Parade of the Woodland Animals

Downtown Windsor turns into a lantern-lit woodland on the first two Saturdays of December. The Windsor Christmas Market & Parade of the Woodland Animals β€” the full title adds "and their friends from the sea" β€” runs December 5 and 12, 2026, with markets throughout downtown from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., live Christmas music from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the headline event stepping off at 6:00 p.m.: a parade of giant illuminated woodland-creature puppets processing through the downtown core. Admission to all of it is free. The event is organized by Windsor Makers Studio & Art Market, whose downtown studio anchors the maker scene, and 2026 is its second annual edition after a much-photographed debut in December 2025.

The parade is the reason to come, and the reason to arrive by 5:30: giant puppets β€” woodland animals and their sea-going friends β€” carried through downtown Windsor after dark, with the market's lights and the live music building the countdown. The whole program is built for families: vendor markets to shop, strollable downtown blocks, music through the early evening, and a spectacle that lands well before young bedtimes. Bring layers rather than chairs β€” the route is short and the viewing is informal along the parade streets β€” and plan to eat from the market vendors, since the evening is designed as a full downtown event rather than a drive-by parade.

Windsor makes an easy holiday stopover: the gateway to the Annapolis Valley, twenty minutes from Wolfville, and squarely on the corridor between Halifax and the Valley's farm country β€” our Annapolis Valley self-drive guide covers the routes. The December calendar stacks up across the region: Windsor's market weekends follow the Halifax Christmas Tree Lighting (November 28) and the Christkindlmarket at Alderney Landing (November 27–29), so one festive fortnight can run tree lighting, German-style market, and puppet parade. Start with our Christmas in Nova Scotia guide for the full provincial picture.
