The paddling season runs late May to early October - here is what the water and weather do inside it.
Fog: The South Shore and Fundy coast are fog factories, especially in June and July. A blue-sky morning can drop to 50 metres of visibility by afternoon - carry a compass or GPS even on familiar routes, and prefer guided trips if you do not have navigation training.
Wind: Afternoon sea breezes build reliably on hot days, turning calm morning water choppy by mid-afternoon. The standard Maritime playbook is to launch early and be off the water by early afternoon on exposed coasts.
Cold water: This is the constant. Even at their September peak, ocean temperatures sit in the low-to-mid teens Celsius. Dress for immersion, not for the air temperature - a wetsuit or paddle suit on the ocean, always with a PFD.
