Expect to get wet and muddy; bare feet are actually recommended, and the village supplies bug spray, water, and towels for the cleanup afterward.

The meal is the payoff. Back at the Heritage Village, the Cookhouse serves a traditional lumber camp lunch built around the clams the group dug that morning — all you can eat, with a choice of sandwich, soup, baked beans, beverages, and the Cookhouse's trademark gingerbread with rhubarb sauce. Your adventure also includes a self-guided tour of the restored 1940s village (arrive early to cuddle the kittens, as the staff suggest) and, when a driver is available, a trip around the grounds in a 1940s pickup truck.

• Tide-timed departures: Excursion dates and times are pre-scheduled around low tide, and exact times are confirmed close to the date. Late-afternoon low tides flip the order — meal first, digging after.
• A working harvest, not a demonstration: You keep what you dig. Bring a cooler, ice, and a container if you plan to carry your harvest home, and the crew will explain how to store, clean, and cook your clams.
• Weather logic: Excursions cancelled by the guide for weather are refunded in full. Digging happens in wind and drizzle, so dress in layers — the coast runs cooler than Halifax.
• Small-group feel: Minimum group size is two adults, and dates must be booked at least 48 hours in advance through the Hosking General Store, the village's online shop.

Season and booking
Excursions run on pre-scheduled low-tide dates through the summer season, with group bookings opening each spring. Family package (2 adults + 2 children under 18): $425. Two adults: $425. Three or more adults: $175 per person. Children under 18: $85 each. Groups of more than 10 adults qualify for group rates. Note the fine print: if two groups share an excursion time, a two-adult group pays the regular $175 adult fee rather than the $425 flat rate.

Cancellation
Cancel up to 48 hours ahead for a refund minus a 15% administration fee and any accrued costs; inside 48 hours the deposit is forfeited. Weather cancellations by the guide are refunded in full.
