About Taylor Head Beach
Taylor Head Beach sits inside Taylor Head Provincial Park, a wild 1.5 km arc of sand and barrens jutting into the Atlantic 107 km — about 90 minutes — east of Halifax near Sheet Harbour. This is the farthest reach of the Eastern Shore beach chain and the quietest: no lifeguards, low crowds even in August, and a terrain of granite headlands, bog barrens, and storm beach that feels closer to a national park than a day-trip beach. The park is better known to hikers than swimmers. Trails from the parking area loop out along the headland with ocean views the whole way and bird life that rewards binoculars: seabirds offshore, warblers in the spruce, and the occasional seal hauled out on the rocks below. The beach itself has a boardwalk over the dunes, washrooms, change rooms, and picnic tables; parking is free. The surf is moderate Atlantic swell, and there are no supervised swims, so families treat it as a walk-and-wade beach rather than a swimming stop. Walking, solitude, and bird watching are what the park does best. Dogs are allowed on leash, and access is not wheelchair accessible beyond the upper area. Bring everything you need — the nearest services are in Sheet Harbour, 20 minutes west.
