Barra MacNeils: An East Coast Christmas

The Barra MacNeils mark their 40th anniversary in 2026, and the Sydney Mines family brings the celebration to the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium for two shows on Sunday, December 20 — a 3:00 pm matinee and a 7:30 pm evening performance. The milestone belongs to the band rather than the show: the 2026 dates are billed as the 40th Anniversary National Christmas Tour, while the beloved East Coast Christmas production itself marked 25 years in 2025 and dates to the early 2000s. Expect lush sibling harmonies, fiddle, mandolin and bagpipes, step dance, and the stories-between-songs warmth that has made this family a Maritime holiday fixture.

Each December the family splits the stage with a rotating cast — siblings Lucy, Kyle, Sheumas, Ryan, Boyd and Stewart MacNeil trade lead vocals and instruments across traditional seasonal fare, Celtic chestnuts and gospel-tinged numbers, backed by their signature multi-instrumental arrangements. The Halifax stop is a homecoming of sorts for the Cape Breton family, and the Rebecca Cohn's acoustics suit the vocal blend the group is famous for.
