Jimmy Rankin: Song Dog 25th Anniversary Tour

Twenty-five years after the album that launched his solo career, Jimmy Rankin brings the Song Dog 25th Anniversary Tour to Glasgow Square Theatre in New Glasgow on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. The show lands in the heart of Nova Scotia's Northumberland Shore, a region that has always turned out for East Coast music — Rankin's previous Glasgow Square performance sold out. For this tour he is performing Song Dog live in its entirety for the first time, front to back, alongside favourites from across his catalogue.

Song Dog, recorded in 2000 at Great Big Music in Toronto with producer Tim Thorney and released on EMI in 2001, was Rankin's first step out of The Rankin Family — the group he wrote and sang for through multi-platinum albums and six Junos. The record mixed folk, country, Celtic and rock into something rougher and more personal, and it paid off: an ECMA Album of the Year win, a CCMA win, two Juno nominations, a SOCAN #1 radio play award for "Followed Her Around," and a new audience built on the road with the Song Dog Band. Hearing those songs sequenced as one album, in an intimate riverside theatre about two hours from where the Rankin siblings grew up in Mabou, is exactly the setting they deserve.

Glasgow Square sits on the East River at Chattan Park, with parking on site and downtown New Glasgow's restaurants a short walk away. A VIP experience with early access, a meet-and-greet and a photo opportunity is offered alongside general tickets. The theatre sells through its own box office and Ticketpro outlet — avoid third-party resellers. Coming from farther afield, pair the show with a weekend in Pictou or Antigonish while the November coast is quiet and the rates are low.
