About The Nutcracker — Symphony Nova Scotia 2026
Symphony Nova Scotia's The Nutcracker returns to the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium for its 35th year, December 4–13, 2026, across nine performances — Halifax's favourite holiday tradition and the city's biggest annual family draw at holiday time. Tchaikovsky's iconic score is performed live by the full orchestra while dancers of Halifax Dance share the stage with Mermaid Theatre's larger-than-life puppets, in choreography and direction by Leica Hardy.
This is the version Halifax families return to year after year: the warmth of a full orchestra in the Cohn's intimate hall, the surprise of Mermaid's puppets amplifying the battle and journey scenes, and a first-act party scene that fills the stage with local young dancers. For visitors it is the single best 'Christmas in Halifax' evening out — matinees (Dec 5, 6, 12, 13 at 2:00 pm; Dec 10 at 4:00 pm) suit families with young children; evening shows run 7:30 pm.
Tickets are on sale now, starting at $48.50 for adults, $26.50 for children, and $36.50 for under-30s and students (HST and fees included), through the Symphony Nova Scotia website or the Dalhousie Arts Centre Box Office at 902-494-3820. The Rebecca Cohn sits on the Dalhousie campus a short walk from Spring Garden Road's hotels and restaurants — pair a performance with the full Nova Scotia Christmas guide for markets, lights and parades the same weekend.
