About Mira River Beach

Mira River Provincial Park's day-use beach sits on the freshwater Mira River, made famous by the song 'Out on the Mira.' The wide, gentle river flows through eastern Cape Breton and offers some of the warmest swimming on the island in summer, with a sandy day-use beach (MacLellans West Bay), picnic tables, and an accessible Mobi-mat beach mat. Unsupervised swimming; the gentle current and sandy bottom make it a beloved local family destination and a cultural landmark in Cape Breton's musical heritage. Day-use beach open May 29 – October 19, 2026.
