About Queensland Beach

Queensland Beach is a compact 600-metre crescent of golden sand on the South Shore near Hubbards, 46 km — about 45 minutes — from Halifax along the Lighthouse Route (Highway 103). What it lacks in length it makes up for in water: protected by the headlands of St. Margarets Bay, the beach has calm, shallow water that warms quickly, reaching about 19°C in August — among the warmest saltwater swimming near the city. The beach is part of Queensland Beach Provincial Park, with free parking across the road, washrooms, change rooms, and picnic tables in the shaded area behind the sand. Lifeguards supervise daily from July 1 to August 30, 10 AM to 6 PM, and the calm surf makes their job easier than at the exposed Atlantic beaches. The setting is classic Nova Scotia summer: soft sand, warm shallows, and spruce-lined shores on both sides of the bay. Swimming and family outings are what the beach does best, and it is a reliable stop on a Hubbards–Aspotogan Peninsula day trip. Crowds run high on weekend afternoons in July and August given the small size, so time a visit for morning or a weekday. Dogs are allowed on leash, and access is partially wheelchair accessible.
