About Waterside Beach
Waterside Beach is a quiet, 500-metre sandy beach on Nova Scotia's Northumberland Strait, inside Waterside Beach Provincial Park near Pictou — about 151 km, or ninety minutes, from Halifax. The park sits on a stretch of coast where the shallow strait warms quickly: July water temperatures run around 19°C and August around 20°C, and the calm, shallow water over the sandbars makes it ideal for wading with children or floating on a warm afternoon. The setting is the reason to come. Crowd levels are low even in July and August, the surf is calm, and on clear days the view stretches across the strait toward Prince Edward Island. The beach is best suited to walking and quiet beachcombing rather than a full facilities-driven beach day: there is free parking, washrooms, change rooms, picnic tables, and a boardwalk crossing to the sand, but no canteen and no lifeguard supervision — swim within your comfort and keep children in view. Wheelchair access is limited, and dogs are welcome on leash. Waterside suits travellers touring the Northumberland Shore who want a peaceful stop between the bigger provincial beach parks — arrive early with a cooler and you may have the sand largely to yourself.
