About Antigonish Highland Games
The Antigonish Highland Games, now in its 161st edition, is the oldest continuous Highland Games in North America and a cornerstone of Nova Scotia's Scottish heritage. Held annually at Columbus Field in the charming university town of Antigonish, the games draw thousands of visitors for a week-long celebration of Celtic culture.
The 2026 games feature traditional heavy events including the caber toss, hammer throw, and stone put, alongside highland dancing competitions, pipe band performances, and the stirring massed bands finale. The opening ceremonies include the traditional Kilted Run and the Parade of the Clans, bringing together dozens of Scottish clans from across North America.
Beyond the athletic field, visitors can explore clan tents to trace their Scottish ancestry, enjoy traditional Scottish cuisine, and attend ceilidhs (traditional Gaelic social gatherings) throughout the week. The Antigonish area itself offers beautiful beaches, hiking trails, and the stunning St. Francis Xavier University campus.
