About Halifax Pride Festival
Halifax Pride is Atlantic Canada's largest Pride celebration, bringing together the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies for 11 days of events, activism, and celebration. The festival culminates in the iconic Halifax Pride Parade, which winds through downtown Halifax drawing tens of thousands of spectators in a joyful display of love, diversity, and inclusion.
The 2026 festival featured a packed schedule including the flagship Pride Festival on the Halifax Common with live performances, community booths, and family programming. Other highlights included the Pride Dyke March, the Trans March, queer film screenings, drag shows, poetry readings, and a diverse lineup of daytime and nighttime events at venues across the city. Halifax Pride capped off an extraordinary cultural corridor on the waterfront — caught LatinFax (Jul 15-18, FREE Latin American festival) and Afrifest (Jul 16-19, FREE African diaspora celebration) during Pride week for a multicultural experience unlike any other.
First held in 1988, Halifax Pride has grown into one of the city's largest and most vibrant annual events. The festival is a powerful statement of community and belonging, welcoming visitors from across the Maritimes and beyond to celebrate progress, advocate for equality, and enjoy an unforgettable summer party on the waterfront.
🏨 Where to Stay for Halifax Pride
The Halifax Pride Parade starts on Cogswell Street downtown, heads down Barrington Street, west along Spring Garden Road, and north on South Park Street to finish at Garrison Grounds on the Halifax Common, and most festival events cluster in the downtown core. Staying close to that corridor puts you within walking distance of nearly everything - and Halifax Pride weekend is one of the busiest stretches of the summer, so booking early makes a real difference.
- Downtown Halifax - Closest to Garrison Grounds and the festival's main stage. Major hotels, the waterfront, and most nighttime events are an easy walk from here.
- North End Halifax - Near the parade finish at Garrison Grounds and the Agricola Street dining strip. Expect boutique stays, B&Bs, and short-term rentals with a more local, neighbourhood feel.
Wherever you land, reserve as far ahead as you can - rooms fill weeks in advance for Pride week.
🍽️ Pride-Friendly Dining in Halifax
Halifax's LGBTQ+ dining and bar scene centres on two walkable pockets of the city, both right on the Pride route. During the festival, patios spill onto the sidewalk and many venues host Pride-themed gatherings, drag brunches, and late-night parties.
- Agricola Street (North End) - The heart of Halifax's queer dining and bar scene, a short walk from the parade finish at Garrison Grounds. Expect cosy cafés, cocktail bars, and patios that come alive during Pride week.
- Spring Garden Road area (Downtown) - Popular restaurants, breweries, and cafés near the Garrison Grounds festival zone, ideal for grabbing a meal between main-stage sets and evening events.
Reservations are strongly recommended on parade weekend - the best patios book up fast.
🎉 Best Spots to Watch the Pride Parade
The Pride Parade rolls from Cogswell Street to Garrison Grounds on Parade Day (July 18), and the whole route offers great viewing if you know where to stand. Arrive early - the best spots go quickly, especially near the finish.
- Garrison Grounds (finish line) - The post-parade festival hub, with live music, community booths, and food vendors. Best if you want the celebration to keep going after the last float.
- Barrington Street / Spring Garden Road corridor - A solid mid-route vantage point with thinner crowds and a clear view of the floats as they pass.
- Cogswell Street staging area - Catch the energy at the start, where floats line up, music kicks off, and the parade comes to life.
