About Louisbourg Crab Fest
The Louisbourg Crab Fest is a beloved Cape Breton summer tradition celebrating the region's world-class snow crab fishery. Held on the Louisbourg waterfront, near the Louisbourg Playhouse (11 Quarry Point Rd) and a short distance from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the festival served up fresh-caught Nova Scotia snow crab dinners starting at noon, accompanied by live toe-tapping entertainment that captures the spirit of Cape Breton's legendary music scene.
Set against the backdrop of the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site β the largest reconstructed 18th-century French fortress in North America β the Crab Fest offered a uniquely Cape Breton experience combining incredible seafood with rich cultural heritage. Visitors could explore the fortress in the morning before heading to the waterfront for crab dinners, live Celtic and Acadian music, and community celebrations that ran into the evening.
The 2026 festival was a highlight of the Cape Breton summer calendar and the perfect complement to a visit to the Fortress of Louisbourg. Pair your trip with a drive along the nearby Louisbourg Lighthouse Trail for dramatic coastal views, or extend your stay to explore the scenic Sydney waterfront just 30 minutes away. On site there were food trucks and children's activities from 1-4pm; please note no backpacks or knapsacks are permitted after 8pm and only service animals are allowed.
