Louisbourg Race Through Time

The Louisbourg Race Through Time returned for its 30th annual running on Saturday, August 15, 2026 — an 8-mile (12 km) evening road race that took runners from the reconstructed 18th-century streets of the Fortress of Louisbourg to the modern town of Louisbourg, a journey between two communities that are more than three centuries apart. Few races anywhere pair athletic challenge with such a vivid sense of place: the start line sat inside a UNESCO-class national historic site, and the route unfolded along the rugged Cape Breton coastline where France once built its great North American fortress.

The race began at 5:30 PM, timed so participants ran through golden evening light along the harbour. The 12 km point-to-point course is known for its rolling hills and ocean views, and it has become one of Nova Scotia's most popular late-summer road races, drawing runners from across Atlantic Canada and beyond.
