About South Shore Exhibition (The Big Ex)
Nova Scotia's largest agricultural exhibition, the South Shore Exhibition — affectionately known as The Big Ex — has been a Bridgewater tradition since 1891. For one week each summer, the South Shore Exhibition Grounds came alive with horse and oxen pulls, 4-H displays, an amusement midway, live music, a petting barn, and local food vendors.
The midway featured carnival rides and games for all ages, while the agricultural barns showcased prize livestock, produce, and handiwork from across the region. Live entertainment ranged from local performers to headline concerts, and the demolition derby was a perennial crowd favourite.
A true family event, The Big Ex celebrated South Shore rural heritage while delivering a classic summer fair experience. The 2026 edition ran July 27 – August 2 at the South Shore Exhibition Grounds in Bridgewater; see thebigex.com for next year's dates, ride wristband deals, and concert lineup.
