History & Description
The current Apple River Lighthouse was built around 1965, replacing an earlier tower from 1870. It is a square white tower situated on a fog signal building at Cape Capstan on the north entrance to Apple River on Chignecto Bay.
The original lighthouse at this location was established in 1848 and was replaced in 1870 by a second tower. The present structure (Apple River III) was constructed between 1966 and 1970 and was automated by 1973. The light characteristic is flashing white.
