Highland Village Museum Tour
Located on a 40-acre property at 4119 Highway 223 in Iona, overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes, the Highland Village Museum in Iona takes visitors straight to the source of Cape Breton's Scottish Gaelic heritage. As North America's only living history museum dedicated to Gaelic language and culture, this immersive experience transports guests back to the 19th century through eleven recreated buildings, costumed interpreters, and authentic cultural demonstrations. Perched on a hillside above the Bras d'Or Lakes, the site pairs its historical narrative with one of the best views in Cape Breton, which is a large part of why the visit lingers.

Hours: Open seasonally (June 1–Oct 17, 2026), daily 10:00 AM–4:30 PM. Year-round visits by appointment.
Cost: Adults $19.00, Seniors (65+) $13.00, Students (6–17) $8.00, Children 5 & under free, Family (2 adults + children) $45.00. Canada Strong Pass (Jun 19–Sep 7): Free admission for 17 & under, 50% off for 18–24.
Accessibility: Limited due to hilly terrain and uneven paths on a 40-acre hill. 5-passenger accessibility cart available by advance booking (48 hours notice). Barrier-free washrooms at Welcome Centre. Not fully wheelchair-accessible. Some accessible parking available.
