About Bachmans Beach
Bachmans Beach is a small, 400-metre sandy cove on the Atlantic side of the Kingsburg Peninsula at the mouth of the LaHave River, reached through Riverport about 107 km — roughly an hour and a quarter — from Halifax. It is the quietest of the Lunenburg-area beaches: limited parking at the end of the road, no washrooms, change rooms, canteen, or lifeguard, and low crowds even in August. What it offers instead is a long, low-tide sand flat and calm water that families from the South Shore treat as their own. The peninsula drive is part of the appeal — quiet roads past Hirtles and Kingsburg, with the beach a short walk from the parking spot. Water temperatures run about 17°C in July and 19°C in August, and the surf stays calm in most conditions. Wheelchair access is limited, and dogs are welcome on leash. Its near neighbours, Hirtles Beach and Gaff Point, make this corner of the South Shore one of the province's best quiet-beach clusters. Bachmans pairs naturally with a Lunenburg day — the UNESCO Old Town is 25 minutes back up the shore — or with the LaHave cable ferry and famous bakery across the river, which make an easy loop back toward the Lighthouse Route.
