Quick Facts
About Canadian Multiculturalism Day
Canadian Multiculturalism Day is a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures that make Cape Breton home, hosted by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality in partnership with the Multicultural Association of Cape Breton. Held at Sydney's Open Hearth Park Amphitheatre, this family-friendly event brings together communities representing Mi'kmaq, Acadian, Scottish, Eastern European, Caribbean, African, and Asian heritage through food, music, art, and interactive experiences.
The 2026 celebration features an International Food Festival with tickets ($5 each) redeemable at eight participating restaurants including Super Bun, Taste of Ukraine, Viet Yummy, Samar's Kitchen, Omma's Korean BBQ and Grill, Pam's Kitchen, Isla Kusina, and Nanaxhi Traditional Tastes. Live musical performances by Brazilian headliner Bia Ferreira β blending soul, blues, reggae, funk, and R&B β and local favourites WAM-PUM. A hands-on cultural fair offers henna art, Chinese rubbing bookmark making, and traditional windmill crafting.
As Mayor Cecil Clarke notes, 'Multiculturalism Day is one of the most joyful celebrations we host each year. It reflects who we are as a community; welcoming, diverse, and proud of the many cultures that call Cape Breton home.' This 5β9 PM evening event at the Open Hearth Park Amphitheatre is free to attend and offers a genuine taste of Cape Breton's cultural richness.
