Quick Facts
History & Description
Belliveau Cove Lighthouse was first established in 1889 as a pierhead light on the eastern pierhead of the north shore of Belliveau Cove, Digby County. The current structure is a tapered square wood tower painted white with a red lantern, standing 22 feet tall. It serves St. Marys Bay on the Evangeline Trail.
The original lighthouse was toppled by a severe storm in 1973 when its foundation deteriorated. A community group in the Municipality of Clare built a replica lighthouse in the 1980s, which is now maintained as a private navigational aid. The site is owned by the Municipality of the District of Clare and is accessible by car near the community of Belliveau Cove.
