About Sandy Cove Beach
Sandy Cove Beach is a small, 500-metre mix of sand and rock on the northern tip of Digby Neck, about 257 km — roughly two and a half hours — from Halifax. This is Bay of Fundy beachgoing in its purest form: at low tide the sea retreats hundreds of metres, exposing a floor of coloured stone, tidal pools, and kelp that fills an easy hour of exploring, then returns on a tide that moves faster than most people expect. Check the tide table and keep one eye on the waterline. The Fundy water is cold — about 13°C in July and 14°C in August — so this is a walking and tidepooling beach rather than a swimming one. Facilities are minimal: free parking and picnic tables, no washrooms or change rooms, and no lifeguard. Crowd levels are low, wheelchair access is limited, and dogs are welcome on leash. The views run down the Neck toward Long Island and Brier Island, and whale-watching boats work the passage offshore through the season. Sandy Cove is a deliberate stop on the Digby Neck drive rather than a destination in itself: pair it with the ferries to the islands, scallops in Digby, and the bird colonies that stack up along these headlands in migration season.
