Quick Facts
History & Description
Cape St. Marys Lighthouse crowns a dramatic clifftop look-off overlooking St. Mary's Bay in Nova Scotia's Acadian shore region. Built in 1965 and now the centrepiece of Cape Saint Mary Lighthouse Park, the 29-foot tower is no longer operational but remains a beloved landmark in the Municipality of Clare.
The Municipality of Clare took ownership of the property in 2017 and later restored the exterior and added a new parking lot. In July 2018 a granite monument was unveiled commemorating those lost at sea in the Clare region. Bilingual English and French interpretive panels cover the village's founding, lighthouse history, marine ecology, and the fog.
Wheelchair-accessible and open year-round, the grounds offer picnic tables, seasonal restrooms, and a viewing scope for taking in the ocean sunsets. The lighthouse is reached by car along the Evangeline Trail and sits just minutes from Mavillette Beach Provincial Park.
