Quick Facts
History & Description
The Caveau Point Rear Range Light is the working partner of the front light at the entrance to Cheticamp Harbour, standing across Caveau Bay on Cape Breton's west coast. Together the two lights form a range that mariners align to navigate safely into the Acadian harbour.
Rear range lights are positioned higher and farther inland than their front counterparts, allowing a vessel to see both lights stacked vertically when on the correct course. Still operational, this rear light continues to serve the fishing and boating community of Inverness County alongside the Cabot Trail.
Accessible by car, the light is part of the maritime heritage of the Cheticamp region, one of the centres of French Acadian culture on Cape Breton Island.
