Quick Facts
History & Description
The Charlos Harbour Front Range Light once stood at the western entrance to Charlos Cove on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore, where it guided vessels into the sheltered waters of Tor Bay. Established in 1901 as the front half of a range light pair, the light has since been destroyed and no longer stands.
The original 23-foot square wooden tower was replaced around 1965 by a tapered tower marked with a red stripe, and the station was decommissioned in 1987 before being dismantled around 1988. Its partner, the Charlos Harbour Rear Range Light, survives as the only remaining piece of the range system that once guided mariners into the harbour.
Reached by car along the Marine Drive, the site is part of the historic Guysborough County coastline, where remnants of early range light systems still mark the shore.
