History & Description

Liscomb Lighthouse stands on Cranberry Point at the southwest end of its island in Liscomb Harbour, on the Eastern Shore's Marine Drive, and is reachable only by boat. The present tower is a 45-foot octagonal concrete structure painted white with a red iron lantern, with its beam 72 feet above the water.

This point has carried a light since 1872, when a combined white dwelling and square tower was first built here. That original station was replaced in 1921 by the current concrete tower, which the following year received a 4th order dioptric lens showing a flashing red light and a hand foghorn; a fog signal was sounded from the lighthouse through the 1960s, and an electric mercury-vapour lantern was installed by 1990.

Automated by 1986, the 1921 octagonal tower still stands as one of the more distinctive concrete lights on the Eastern Shore. Sitting on an offshore island, it is best seen from the water at the entrance to Liscomb Harbour.
