Quick Facts
History & Description
The Wallace Harbour Rear Range Light is the taller of the two 1904 range lights at Wallace Harbour, standing roughly 45 feet high. It is a square wooden tower painted white, positioned behind the front tower so the two line up to mark the dredged channel into the harbour. The original tower is still standing, though it no longer operates after being replaced by a sector light in 1988.
The rear tower carried a catadioptric lens from 1922 to 1943, working in line with its companion for more than six decades. Although its active role has passed to a modern sector light, the wooden tower still stands as a landmark on the Northumberland Shore. Wallace Harbour is reached along the Sunrise Trail, where the sandstone cliffs and warm summer waters make it one of the most inviting harbours in Cumberland County.
