Quick Facts
History & Description
The Wallace Harbour Front Range Light is one of a pair of range lights that have guided boats into Wallace Harbour on the Northumberland Shore since 1904. It is a square wooden tower, about 30 feet tall, painted white, set so that it lines up with its rear companion to mark the harbour channel. The front tower is still standing and operational.
The front light carried a catadioptric lens from 1922 to 1943 and was automated by 1993, like every working light in Nova Scotia. Wallace Harbour sits along the Sunrise Trail in Cumberland County, a quiet anchorage backed by sandstone cliffs and known for its warm-water beaches and oyster beds. The two range towers remain familiar landmarks for the local fishing fleet.
