Melmerby Beach Provincial Park protects roughly two kilometres of sandy shoreline, which gives you room to walk for an hour without retracing your steps even on busy days. Parking is free, and the park is fully developed for day use, with washrooms, changerooms, picnic tables, and a boardwalk that carries visitors over the dunes toward the sand. The beach is wheelchair accessible, and the boardwalk spares everyone the awkward trudge through soft sand when carrying coolers and umbrellas. The surf is calm, which suits younger swimmers, though as anywhere on the coast children still need watching. Speaking of watching, Melmerby is one of the supervised beaches in the province: lifeguards are on duty daily from July 1 to August 30, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
