About Blue Sea Beach

Blue Sea Beach is a 500-metre sandy strand inside Blue Sea Beach Provincial Park on the Northumberland Strait near Malagash, about 173 km — roughly two hours — from Halifax. The strait's shallow water warms faster than anywhere else in the province outside Cape Breton's west coast: about 19°C in July and 20°C in August, with calm surf that makes the beach a dependable family swim destination. On bright days the water shifts through the blue-green shades that gave the beach its name. Facilities are complete for a half-day stop: free parking, washrooms, and picnic tables, though there are no change rooms or canteen. There is no lifeguard supervision, so keep young swimmers in sight — the shallows run far out, which is both the appeal and the thing to watch. Crowd levels are low to medium, wheelchair access is limited, and dogs are welcome on leash. The pairing that makes Blue Sea famous locally: Jost Vineyards, one of Nova Scotia's largest wineries, is minutes away on the Malagash Peninsula.
